Wheelchair and ECV Rentals at Universal Orlando: Costs and Park-Day Planning

Compare the three rental options, know the limits before arrival and plan the handoffs that can shape a park day.

A manual wheelchair rents for $15 per day, a standard ECV for $75 and an ECV with a canopy for $95. All three require a signed rental contract. Inventory is subject to availability, so the first decision is whether a park rental is a workable convenience or a device the day depends on.

A rental solves only part of the planning. A guest may still need to transfer into a standard wheelchair for a queue or into a ride vehicle. Transportation can introduce another transfer. Work through those handoffs before choosing the device.

Current daily rental prices

Manual wheelchair

$15 per day

The lowest-cost option. Consider who will propel the chair and how much distance the group expects to cover.

Standard ECV

$75 per day

A motorized option for covering the parks. Attraction and transportation transfer rules still apply.

ECV with canopy

$95 per day

The canopy adds shade, but does not change queue, ride or transportation requirements.

Prices are subject to change. Check the current park-information FAQ shortly before the visit, especially if the price affects the decision to rent or bring a personal device.

Rent at the park or bring your own?

QuestionPark rental may fitBringing a device may fit
Is the device essential from parking or hotel departure? No; the guest can reach the rental point comfortablyYes; the guest needs it before the park entrance
Can the plan absorb limited inventory?Yes; the group has a backupNo; the day depends on a specific device
Will attraction transfers be difficult?Ask at each entrance before joiningCheck whether the personal device can enter the queue and where a transfer occurs
Will the group use resort transportation?Ask how the rental is handled before leaving the parkConfirm the device fits the vehicle or lift and whether the rider must move to a seat

Do not assume a park rental begins at the parking space or hotel. The exact walk to pickup matters. The posted prices require a rental contract, while Epic Universe has park-specific pickup directions.

Where to pick up a rental at Epic Universe

At Epic Universe, the wheelchair rental facility is inside the entrance on the left. ECV rentals are at the stroller rental facility just inside the turnstiles. The park describes its rental inventory as limited and first-come.

Ask before leaving the counter

Confirm the return location, the device controls and what to do if the device stops working. Keep the rental agreement where someone else in the group can find it.

Equally specific pickup directions are not published for Universal Studios Florida or Islands of Adventure. Check the current park map or ask a Team Member at the entrance instead of borrowing the Epic Universe directions.

A mobility device does not decide queue access

Guests whose only need is a wheelchair or mobility device do not need an IBCCES Accessibility Card or an Attractions Assistance Pass. That does not mean every device follows the same route through every attraction. Queue access, ride-vehicle transfer and assistance needs are separate questions.

Epic Universe generally does not permit ECVs in attraction queues or ride vehicles. Where the queue can accommodate it, a guest transfers to a standard wheelchair supplied by the attraction. How to Train Your Dragon: Untrainable is the exception. Check the current procedure with the Team Member at each entrance.

Attraction attendants can explain the route and position a supplied wheelchair, but they cannot lift a guest or provide physical transfer assistance. If a guest needs that help, plan for a companion who can provide it safely.

Volcano Bay has a different rental limit

ECVs are not available to rent at Volcano Bay. The restriction applies to ECVs; it does not establish that manual wheelchairs are unavailable. Confirm current water-park options before arrival if the group needs a device there.

Check transportation before boarding

A device that works inside a park may still require a transfer on a shuttle. At Epic Universe, a wheelchair or ECV must fit the shuttle lift. A guest using an ECV must transfer to a bus seat. Treat that as an Epic-specific instruction and ask about the exact vehicle on any other resort route.

Measure a personal device before the trip and keep the dimensions on the phone. If a transfer is difficult, ask about the boarding sequence before joining the line.

Before-arrival checklist

  • Choose manual wheelchair, standard ECV or canopy ECV based on walking distance and the full park-day plan.
  • Recheck the posted rental price and availability language.
  • Decide what the group will do if park inventory is gone.
  • Save the current accessibility guide for each park on the itinerary.
  • List priority attractions and check the device and transfer procedure at each entrance.
  • Plan who can provide physical transfer help if it is needed.
  • Measure a personal device before using resort transportation.
  • For Volcano Bay, confirm current wheelchair options and do not plan on an ECV rental.

Check current terms: Open Universal Orlando's park-information FAQ. For attraction details, use the current park accessibility guide and ask at the entrance when the procedure affects participation.
