View Universal Studios Japan wait times and park stats.
Universal Studios Japan does not allow suitcases or roller bags inside the park. The lockers that fit them are outside the entrance, and the largest sizes are limited. If you arrive with luggage, deal with it before joining the security and entry flow.
The other important rule is re-entry. A regular Studio Pass does not let you leave and return, even if you only need something from an outside locker or your car. Annual Passes are the stated exception.
Use an outside or inside locker?
Use an outside locker when...
You have a suitcase, roller bag or another item too large to enter the park. Outside lockers also make sense for anything you need before entry or after your park day.
Use an inside locker when...
You are already through the entrance and want to store a smaller bag, extra layer or purchase. The inside bank is cash-only and has small lockers.
Do not put tickets, passports, medication, a phone charger or anything else you may need during the day in an outside locker. Retrieving it may require ending your visit.
Where are the lockers?
The main outside locker area sits before the security checkpoint. Cashless lockers are on the left near the Entry Arches, while coin-operated lockers are on the right. These are the lockers to use for suitcases and roller bags.
After entering the park, a cash-only locker bank is on the right. That inside location is useful for smaller belongings, but it is not a suitcase-storage option.
Locker sizes and current fees
| Locker | Inside dimensions | Current fee | Payment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small | 357 × 453 × 398 mm | 500 yen | Cash |
| Large | 357 × 453 × 802 mm | 1,000 yen | Cash |
| XXL | 536 × 617 × 926 mm | 2,000 yen | Cash |
| Small | 355 × 645 × 326 mm | 500 yen | Cashless |
| Large | 355 × 645 × 567 mm | 1,000 yen | Cashless |
| XL | 355 × 645 × 868 mm | 1,500 yen | Cashless |
Width, depth and height are listed in that order. The cash and cashless cabinets use different dimensions even when the size name is the same. Measure a rigid suitcase before relying on the label alone.
Cash and cashless lockers work differently
Cash-only lockers accept coins, and change machines are available in the locker area. Cashless lockers accept supported contactless credit cards, e-money and QR payments.
The cashless machine prints a receipt that doubles as the baggage retrieval ticket. Keep it somewhere separate from the bag. You will need it to open the locker.
Closing time, late pickup and re-entry
Locker areas normally close with the park. The parking-side area outside the Entry Arch stays accessible until two hours after park closing, giving guests a little more time after exit.
Items left after the locker area closes are removed and held for a limited period. Retrieval begins at Guest Services the following day and carries an extra charge. This is a recovery process, not an overnight-storage option.
Again, leaving the park to collect something does not preserve entry on a regular Studio Pass. Treat the outside locker as inaccessible during your park day unless you are ready to leave for good.
A practical luggage plan
- Leave large luggage at your hotel when possible. USJ specifically warns that large and extra-large lockers are limited.
- Measure the bag. Compare its widest points with the locker dimensions, including wheels and handles.
- Separate the park-day essentials. Keep your ticket, identification, medication, phone, wallet and weather gear with you.
- Choose payment before arrival. Bring coins for a cash locker or a supported contactless option for the outside cashless bank.
- Save the exact location. Photograph the locker bank and keep the key or cashless receipt secure.
- Collect the bag before the area closes. Check the day's park hours and leave enough time to reach the correct side of the entrance.
Frequently asked questions
Can you take a suitcase into Universal Studios Japan?
No. Suitcases and roller bags must stay outside the park. Use a large, XL or XXL outside locker, or leave the luggage at your hotel or another storage location before arrival.
Can you reserve a locker?
Plan to choose from the lockers available when you arrive. The largest lockers are limited, so a specific size cannot be guaranteed.
Can you return to an outside locker during the day?
You can exit, but a regular Studio Pass does not allow re-entry. Annual Passes are the stated exception. Store everything you will need during the visit inside the park or keep it with you.
Are the cash and cashless lockers the same size?
No. Their dimensions differ. Check the table above and measure a large or rigid bag before depending on a particular category.
