Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets is now open at Disney's Hollywood Studios. The familiar coaster has a much different personality, with The Electric Mayhem taking over the studio and Scooter somehow in charge of keeping the whole thing moving.

This is one of Disney World's biggest May openings because it changes a major thrill ride without changing the basic job of the attraction. Hollywood Studios still needs a high-capacity, high-energy coaster. Now it gets one with Kermit, Miss Piggy, Dr. Teeth, Animal, a studio full of posters, an official POV video, and a soundtrack that wants the whole exit path to feel like a concert after-party.

The setup: The Electric Mayhem is late

The attraction story sends guests on a VIP tour of G-Force Records, a rock-and-roll studio now under new Muppet management. Dr. Teeth, Animal, Floyd, Janice, Zoot, and Lips are supposed to headline a concert, except the band is still in the studio. Scooter has to get them across town before the fans lose patience.

The old ride's limo idea survives with a Muppet Labs twist. The ride vehicle is a Lengthy Immediate Motion Object, or L.I.M.O. It is a very Muppet acronym. It lets the attraction keep the launch premise while giving the pre-show a fresh excuse to panic.

The courtyard and queue

The famous guitar marquee is staying, now with a psychedelic Electric Mayhem look inspired by the classic Muppet car. The piano motif at the base includes a golden key nod to Dr. Teeth, and the entrance now reads much more like The Electric Mayhem's place than the old Aerosmith version.

Inside the queue, G-Force Records feels like a real place with Muppet history. Official photos show concert-style posters, studio details, and celebrity cameos tucked through the experience. The cameo list includes Awkwafina, Danny Trejo, Darren Criss, John Stamos, Neil Patrick Harris, Travis Barker, Yvette Nicole Brown, Wayne Brady, and "Weird Al" Yankovic.

The May 20 queue details are aimed squarely at longtime Muppet fans. The G-Force Records lobby is now under the fictional management of J.P. Grosse, with Yolanda the Rat credited inside the story as the gallery case curator.

Muppet props and Easter eggs

The gallery case includes a Miss Piggy costume tribute, a recreated version of Kermit's banjo from "The Rainbow Connection," and original Floyd and Janice guitars from The Muppet Show. The setup gives the queue a museum feel without turning it into a quiet room. It is still a rock studio, just one with a lot of very specific props.

Several pieces from Muppet*Vision 3D have also moved into the coaster experience, including shipping crates from the former theater, Statler and Waldorf's balcony chairs, Gonzo's pre-show banner, his stunt airplane, and the penguin cannon. Near the ride path, guests can also look for the PizzeRizzo sign, a Waldo crossing, a reference to World Wide Studios from The Muppet Movie, and the Jim Henson portrait that used to hang in the Muppet*Vision 3D pre-show rafters.

The Muppet Labs Parking Garage has its own pile of gags. The Interpol car from Muppets Most Wanted and the roaming Muppet Mobile Lab are part of the scene, giving repeat riders something to scan for after the launch.

Scooter gets the spotlight

The biggest new figure is Scooter, who appears as the attraction's first-ever Scooter Audio-Animatronics figure. Imagineering used motion-capture work with the actual Scooter Muppet to help the figure move and emote like the character. Nerdy detail, useful payoff: the pre-show should carry some real attraction-refresh weight instead of playing like a simple video swap.

The recording-studio scene has Scooter and penguin audio engineers trying to keep The Electric Mayhem on task. If the timing works, this could be the piece that makes repeat riders slow down and look around instead of treating the queue as a hallway to the launch.

The soundtrack

The set list is doing a lot of work. Riders can hear "Song 2" by The Electric Mayhem, "Born To Be Wild" with Camilla the Chicken, "Love Rollercoaster" with Jennifer Hudson and Questlove, "Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop)" with Def Leppard, and "Walking on Sunshine" with Kelly Clarkson.

The old Aerosmith version had a different track per car, so the multiple-song setup should feel familiar in structure. The Electric Mayhem version keeps that rotating-soundtrack idea and gives it a looser personality without needing the ride track to change.

Ride photos, merch, and food

PhotoPass has concert-inspired attraction photos that put riders on stage with The Electric Mayhem. The gift shop, Rock Around the Shop, gets Muppets apparel, accessories, and souvenirs tied to the retheme.

The food side is getting its own moment just outside the exit. FØØD by Swedish Chef is rolling out a refreshed look and new menu items, including the Electric Slushy and Churro Drum Stick shown in Disney's official photos. It is an easy exit-path snack setup for a ride with built-in fan energy.

How to plan around the opening

Opening week will likely pull three groups at once: Muppet fans, coaster fans, and guests who want the newest Disney World thing. That can make Sunset Boulevard feel front-loaded in the morning and busy again after lunch when guests circle back for a second try.

Opening-week visitors should expect the coaster to pull early interest at Hollywood Studios. Tower of Terror, Beauty and the Beast, and Sunset Boulevard food stops all sit close enough to work around the coaster if the posted wait jumps.

Families with motion-sensitive riders should remember that the ride system is still Rock 'n' Roller Coaster: a launched indoor coaster with inversions. The Muppets can make the story friendlier, but the ride profile remains intense.
