Hurricane Harbor New Jersey will stay closed May 23 and May 24 after forecasted weather wiped out the Six Flags water park's planned opening weekend.

The closure hits the first posted operating date for the Jackson, New Jersey water park. Hurricane Harbor New Jersey is part of the Six Flags Great Adventure resort area and was scheduled to start its 2026 season Saturday, May 23.

The National Weather Service forecast for the park area calls for rain Saturday, with a high near 58, east winds of 10 to 15 mph, gusts as high as 30 mph, and a 100 percent chance of precipitation. Sunday is also wet, with rain, showers, and thunderstorms in the forecast and another 100 percent precipitation chance.

The 45-acre water park has dozens of water slides, multiple kids play areas, a wave pool, a lazy river, cabanas, Jurahnimo Falls, Taak It Eez Ee Creek, Discovery Bay, Paradise Pizza Grill, and Polly's Pub.

Six Flags has not announced a make-up opening event. The main Great Adventure theme park has separate operating hours for Memorial Day weekend, so guests should check the park calendar before leaving for Jackson.
