Cedar Point will close at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 23, after forecasted weather changed the park's Memorial Day weekend operating day.
The early close affects the main amusement park in Sandusky, where late-day weather can turn quickly along Lake Erie. The National Weather Service forecast for Sandusky called for showers and a possible thunderstorm Saturday, with southeast winds around 15 to 17 mph and gusts up to 28 mph.
The main-park change follows another weather hit at the resort. Cedar Point Shores Waterpark, originally lined up for Memorial Day weekend, moved its 2026 opening to Saturday, May 30 earlier this week.
For guests already in the park, the practical change is the evening. A Cedar Point day that might have stretched into the night now ends before the last two hours that often carry cooler temperatures, lower ride waits, and that classic walk back through the midway lights.
Memorial Day weekend still matters at Cedar Point. The park's first few Saturdays can draw locals, coaster fans, passholders, and families trying to get one early-season trip in before school lets out around Ohio and Michigan.
