Garden Grove lifted all evacuation orders tied to the chemical tank emergency at 7:30 p.m. PT on Tuesday, May 26, ending the resident evacuation period that began last week west of Disneyland Resort.

Unified command reported no chemical leak, no threat of explosion, no threat of fire, and no risk to the public. The city map now shows the former evacuation area as a repopulation area.

A small exclusion zone remains around the tank so hazardous-materials teams can keep monitoring it. Western Avenue also remains closed between Chapman Avenue and Garden Grove Boulevard.

The remaining restricted area covers GKN Aerospace at 12122 Western Ave., Trails End RV & Boat Storage, and CR&R. Residents and businesses outside that area were cleared to return.

The Associated Press reported that the final residential evacuation lift allowed 16,000 people to return home. The emergency forced about 50,000 people to evacuate in and around Garden Grove after the methyl methacrylate tank overheated May 21.

Disneyland Resort stayed open during the response and reported no direct park operations impact Sunday. The remaining road closure is still worth noting for anyone driving through west Orange County, especially guests using surface streets around Anaheim, Garden Grove, Stanton, or Westminster.

The evacuation lift follows the earlier Garden Grove tank update, when officials said the catastrophic explosion risk had been eliminated and the evacuation zone had been reduced.
