Disney Legend Floyd Norman to Receive Honorary Oscar in November

The Disney and Pixar story artist will be honored at the Academy's 17th Governors Awards on November 15.

The Academy will present Disney Legend Floyd Norman with an honorary Oscar at the 17th Governors Awards on Sunday, November 15, 2026, at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Ovation Hollywood.

Norman is being honored alongside Glenn Close and Ridley Scott, who will also receive Academy Honorary Awards. Producers Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler will receive the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award.

Floyd Norman's Disney and Pixar Work

Norman became a Disney Legend in 2007. His Disney career began in the 1950s, and his early feature work included Sleeping Beauty, The Sword in the Stone, and The Jungle Book.

He later returned to Disney on Robin Hood. His more recent Disney and Pixar work included The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Mulan, Toy Story 2, and Monsters, Inc.

Norman is 90 and turns 91 on June 22. He remains one of Disney animation's most recognizable living links to the studio's Walt-era feature team. His career also includes cartooning, story work, books, and years of sharp commentary about animation from inside the business.

Governors Awards Date

The Governors Awards ceremony is scheduled for November 15, 2026. The Academy Honorary Award is presented for lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to motion pictures, or service to the Academy.
