Complete Guide to Disney PhotoPass and Memory Maker at Walt Disney World

PhotoPass photographers work at more than 175 locations, while Memory Maker covers eligible downloads from photographers and attractions. The details that matter are timing, linking, and which session fits the trip.

Disney PhotoPass covers the four theme parks, Disney Springs, select resorts, attraction photos, and bookable portrait sessions across Walt Disney World. Photographers can take the picture for free. Guests pay when they buy an individual download or add Memory Maker.

Memory Maker is the broad download package. It includes eligible PhotoPass photos and videos taken during the purchase window, including attraction media. The vacation package can share downloads with as many as 25 people on a Family & Friends list.

PhotoPass and Memory Maker

PhotoPass is the photography service. The photos appear in the My Disney Experience gallery, where guests can preview them and buy downloads or prints. Memory Maker removes the per-photo decision by covering the eligible media tied to the account.

The One Day option works for a single park day, party, or short visit. The standard package suits longer trips and normally gives 30 days from the first activation to collect new photos. An advance purchase saves $25 when bought at least three days before the visit, but photos taken within three days of that purchase are excluded.

Where PhotoPass photographers work

Photographers cover park entrances, icons, character greetings, seasonal events, select dining locations, and resort photo sessions. The busiest icon spots are in Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom. Moving a few yards can change the background and shorten the line.

Disney Springs has a PhotoPass Studio with no reservation required. The complimentary shoot uses seasonal or virtual backdrops, and the pictures can be purchased individually or downloaded with an eligible Memory Maker package.

Attraction photos and linking

At least 13 attractions produce automatic photos or videos. A MagicBand or MagicBand+ can link the media. A phone can also work when the My Disney Experience app is signed in, Bluetooth is enabled, and low-power mode is off. Smartwatches do not support automatic attraction linking.

Guests can also use a Disney MagicMobile pass, admission card, or PhotoPass card when a photographer scans the account. Check the gallery after a major ride photo. The PhotoPass help desk has a missing-photo form if the image never appears.

Lightning Lane Multi Pass includes eligible attraction photo and video downloads for that day. Photographer pictures are not part of that benefit.

Magic Shots and special effects

Magic Shots add characters, props, or animation after the photo is taken. Tiny World and Super Zoom photos pull the camera back around park icons. Availability changes by location, weather, and photographer, so ask what is offered before posing.

These effects work best as quick extras during an existing park route. A long line for one particular shot can erase the convenience, especially in the middle of a hot afternoon.

Portrait sessions

Capture Your Moment is a 20-minute private session in any of the four parks, including a Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge option. Park admission and a park reservation are required. The session price covers the photographer's time, not the downloads, unless the guest already has Memory Maker or another eligible photo benefit.

Signature Portrait Sessions run up to 40 minutes at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and Disney's Polynesian Village Resort. The package includes a dedicated photographer, special props, retouching, and downloads. Reservations open up to 60 days ahead.

The Disney Springs studio is the low-commitment choice. No reservation or session fee is required, and the backdrop can change with the season.

Who should buy Memory Maker

Memory Maker is easiest to justify when the trip includes several park days, character photos, attraction media, or a private session. One Day can cover a single celebration or ticketed event without paying for the rest of the vacation.

Annual Passholders can add PhotoPass downloads for $109 plus tax for one year. Everyone else should compare the current package price with the number of pictures they expect to keep. Make the purchase at least three days before the first photo if the $25 advance savings matters.
