Disney Cruise Line has opened a rebuilt sports courtyard at Woodcock Primary School in Nassau with the Buddy Hield Foundation and ESPN's Take Back Sports initiative.
The completed space includes repaved and painted courts, new basketball rims, and volleyball poles. Bahamian NBA player Buddy Hield joined students for a community basketball tournament at the opening.
The Play Project now reaches nine schools
The Woodcock Primary School courtyard is the ninth location completed through Disney Cruise Line's Play Project in Eleuthera and Nassau, according to a July 27 report based on Disney Cruise Line's opening announcement. A future project is planned for Abaco.
The program began after Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point opened in 2024. Six primary schools in South and Central Eleuthera received improved play spaces during the first year, supported by more than 230 Disney VoluntEARS.
The 2026 expansion plan added baseball fields, basketball courts, track-and-field grounds, and playgrounds in Eleuthera, Nassau, and Abaco. ESPN joined the work through Take Back Sports, which supports free youth sports programming and equipment.
Disney Cruise Line said last week that The Play Project has created more than 33,000 hours of play opportunities for over 600 children since 2024.
