Marvel Studios has no MCU movie scheduled between Avengers: Doomsday on Dec. 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars on Dec. 17, 2027.
Kevin Feige addressed the yearlong theatrical gap in a new interview with Empire. “A lot of it is a strategy we’ve talked about for a while, of focusing on quality,” he said.
Feige said Marvel had spread its teams too thin while producing larger numbers of movies and television series. The studio is now concentrating on landing the two Avengers films and setting up its 2028 slate.
Ghost Rider and Black Panther III are the two Marvel Studios movies revealed for 2028. Marvel announced both projects at San Diego Comic-Con, but has not given either one a release date. The schedule can still change as more films are announced.
What Secret Wars means in Marvel Comics
Marvel Comics has used the Secret Wars name for two major events. The 1984 series placed heroes and villains on Battleworld, a planet assembled by a powerful being called the Beyonder. Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribić's 2015 series began after Marvel's parallel universes collapsed, leaving Doctor Doom in control of a new Battleworld built from pieces of those realities.
The 2015 story eventually rebuilt Marvel's comics continuity. That makes it a natural reference point for an MCU film expected to follow years of multiverse stories, but Marvel Studios has not said the movie will reproduce the comics' characters, structure or ending.
