U.S.-based visual effects workers across Star Wars productions have organized with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees.
The new bargaining unit includes workers on The Mandalorian and Grogu, Ahsoka and Star Wars: Starfighter. The group supported union membership and will now negotiate with the studio for a first contract.
IATSE already represents visual effects groups at Marvel Studios, Walt Disney Pictures and the Avatar franchise. Those groups ratified their first contracts in 2025. The new Star Wars unit extends that organizing effort to workers contributing across several Lucasfilm movies and series.
The announcement does not change a release date or indicate a production delay. It begins the collective bargaining process over working conditions for the covered U.S. workers.
