Deadline reports Samara Weaving will play Emma Frost in Marvel Studios' upcoming X-Men movie.
The trade says director Jake Schreier and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige selected Weaving after a casting search that included several actors. Marvel declined to comment. The studio has not announced Weaving or a release date for the movie, so the casting remains a report rather than a studio confirmation.
Who is Emma Frost?
Emma Frost entered Marvel Comics as the White Queen of the Hellfire Club in 1980. She was introduced as an X-Men adversary with powerful telepathy, then became a teacher and one of the team's leaders. A later mutation also gave her a diamond form that can withstand physical attacks.
That history gives a movie room to use Emma as a rival, ally or both. It does not indicate which direction Schreier's adaptation will take.
Weaving's Disney connection
Weaving stars as Grace in Searchlight Pictures' Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. Her other credits include Scream VI, Babylon and Guns Akimbo.
Schreier previously directed Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts*. Marvel has said an X-Men feature is in development, but the company has not published its title, cast or release date.
