Alan Tudyk looked back at his Disney roles in a new interview ahead of receiving the Disney Legends Award at D23 on August 16.
His Disney run began with King Candy in Wreck-It Ralph. Tudyk said the role gave him room to build a voice around Ed Wynn's Mad Hatter and the stage presence of Truman Capote.
From K-2SO to Hei Hei
Tudyk later played the reprogrammed Imperial droid K-2SO in Rogue One and Andor. His animation credits include Duke of Weselton, Alistair Krei, Duke Weaselton, KnowsMore, Tuk Tuk, Valentino and Chatter Telephone.
For Hei Hei in Moana, Tudyk used sounds from chickens he raised at home. The actor described the recording work as a physical performance, with long stretches of clucks and squawks replacing ordinary dialogue.
The Disney Legends ceremony closes D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event on Sunday. Tudyk joins the 2026 class in the Film and Voice category.
