Formula 1, Disney and Mercedes-AMG are bringing Disney and Pixar's Cars to the Italian Grand Prix in Monza this weekend. Lightning McQueen will make a special appearance that includes an honorary lap.
The FORMULA 1 PIRELLI GRAN PREMIO D'ITALIA 2026 runs September 4 through 6. Practice and qualifying are scheduled before Sunday's race.
Lightning McQueen and the Cars Safety Car
Lightning McQueen will arrive in a new look inspired by the Formula 1 and Disney collaboration. The character's appearance is part of the weekend's celebration of the Cars film franchise, which reaches its 20th anniversary in 2026.
The Official FIA Formula 1 Safety Car, a Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+, will carry a bespoke Cars-inspired livery created for the Monza race weekend.
Cars merchandise arrives trackside
Fans at Monza can shop the Disney and Pixar's Cars with Formula 1 collection throughout race weekend. The assortment includes apparel, accessories, collectibles and Mattel die-cast vehicles.
Select products will also be available through the Official F1 Store and DisneyStore.com ahead of Lightning McQueen Day.
Disney and Formula 1 extended their collaboration through 2028 in August, adding Cars to a program that previously featured Mickey Mouse and Friends. The Monza activation is the first Formula 1 weekend in the expanded Cars program.
