Walt Disney World transportation works best when the route is chosen with the park entrance in mind. A car gives you control over your departure, while buses, monorails, boats, and the Skyliner can save a parking transfer. The right choice changes by park, resort, stroller, mobility need, and how early you want to arrive.

The quick Disney World transportation choice

Start with the park entrance you need, then choose the least complicated transfer for your group. Magic Kingdom is the exception that catches first-time drivers: the theme park lot feeds the Transportation and Ticket Center, not the park gate.

Your destinationBest first lookThe transfer to remember
Magic KingdomDisney bus, monorail, or boat from a resort; car if you need a private departureDrivers park at the Transportation and Ticket Center, then take the ferryboat or monorail.
EPCOTCar, bus, monorail, or SkylinerThe Skyliner arrives at the International Gateway entrance, while cars use the main parking lot.
Disney's Hollywood StudiosCar, bus, boat, walking path, or SkylinerThe Skyliner and FriendShip boats serve the front entrance area from nearby resorts and EPCOT.
Disney's Animal KingdomCar or busThere is no monorail, Skyliner, or boat route to this park, so allow for the parking-lot or bus transfer.

Parking: the numbers and the places

Standard theme park parking is currently $35 per day. Preferred parking is currently $50, $55, or $60 depending on the date, and oversized vehicle parking is $40 per day. One theme park parking pass is valid at all four theme parks on the same day, so a park hopper day does not require a second parking payment.

Parking choiceCurrent detailUse it when...
Standard theme park parking$35 per dayYou want the lowest daily car cost and are comfortable with the lot tram or a longer walk.
Preferred theme park parking$50, $55, or $60 depending on the dateThe shorter walk matters more to your group than the price difference.
Oversized vehicle parking$40 per dayYou arrive in a motor home, trailer, or another oversized vehicle.
Disney Resort hotel guest parkingComplimentary standard theme park parking for registered guestsYou are staying at a Disney Resort hotel and have a car for only part of the trip.
Water park or Disney Springs parkingComplimentary parkingYou are visiting a water park or Disney Springs instead of a theme park.

Magic Kingdom drivers park at the Transportation and Ticket Center. The ferryboat and monorail both continue from there. At EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom, the parking lot is beside the park's main arrival area, with trams moving guests between the lot and the entrance. Parking availability is not guaranteed, and fees can change, so check the current page before leaving.

Plan around the operating windows

Disney transportation does not start and stop on one resort-wide clock. Park opening, Early Entry, park closing, and the destination all matter. Leave a buffer for a queue at the stop or station, especially when a park reservation, dining time, or nighttime show is fixed.

Park-by-park route planning

Magic Kingdom: plan the first transfer

Driving to Magic Kingdom means two steps: park at the Transportation and Ticket Center, then continue by ferryboat or monorail. A resort bus drops you closer to the park entrance, while resort monorails can place you on the same loop as Contemporary, Grand Floridian, and Polynesian Village Resort. The ferryboat is the calmer choice when your group has room for a short ride across the Seven Seas Lagoon.

EPCOT: choose your entrance

EPCOT has a main entrance served by cars, buses, and the monorail, plus the International Gateway entrance served by the Skyliner, FriendShip boats, and nearby walking paths. If your day starts at World Showcase, the International Gateway route can cut out a cross-park walk. If you are driving, the main parking lot remains the straightforward choice.

Hollywood Studios: connect from the Crescent Lake area

The Skyliner, FriendShip boats, walking path, and buses all serve Hollywood Studios from different parts of the resort. The walking path from the Crescent Lake resorts is useful when a group wants to avoid a station wait. The Skyliner is the cleanest connection from Pop Century, Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach, or Riviera Resort, with a transfer at Caribbean Beach for some resort stays.

Animal Kingdom: keep the route simple

Animal Kingdom is served by cars and buses. There is no monorail, Skyliner, or boat route to the park. That makes an early bus or direct drive easier to plan than a resort-hopping route that looks clever on a map and costs time in transfers.

Which transportation mode fits your day?

Buses are the default workhorse

Disney buses serve the four theme parks, both water parks, Disney Springs, and Disney Resort hotels. They are the broadest network, but a park-to-resort trip can require a connection through a theme park or Disney Springs. Fold strollers before boarding, keep luggage out of the cabin, and use the app's route directions when the group is deciding between a wait and a transfer.

Monorails are best around Magic Kingdom and EPCOT

The monorail has three useful lines: the Resort line around Magic Kingdom, the Express line between the Transportation and Ticket Center and Magic Kingdom, and the EPCOT line between the Transportation and Ticket Center and EPCOT. The Resort line is part of the day when you are staying at Contemporary, Grand Floridian, or Polynesian Village Resort. It is not a resort-wide replacement for the bus network.

The Skyliner is the EPCOT and Hollywood Studios shortcut

The Skyliner connects EPCOT and Hollywood Studios with Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach, Pop Century, and Riviera Resort. It also serves the resorts around Crescent Lake through the EPCOT and Hollywood Studios stations. A gondola transfer at Caribbean Beach is part of some trips. It does not go to Magic Kingdom or Animal Kingdom.

Boats trade speed for a quieter route

Water transportation includes ferryboats from the Transportation and Ticket Center to Magic Kingdom, launches from the Magic Kingdom resorts, FriendShip boats around Crescent Lake, and the Sassagoula River Cruise to Disney Springs. Weather can change a boat route. Use the boat when the ride itself helps the group reset, not when a precise arrival time matters.

Minnie Van is the paid point-to-point option

Minnie Van service is requested through Lyft, has a fare that varies by trip, and serves select locations. It can help when a group has a tight reservation, a complicated resort-to-resort trip, or a mobility need that makes multiple transfers awkward. Confirm the available vehicle and destination in the app rather than treating the service as a guaranteed resort taxi.

A workable first-visit transportation plan

  1. Put the park and desired entrance into Get Directions before breakfast.
  2. If you are driving to Magic Kingdom, add the Transportation and Ticket Center transfer to the arrival plan.
  3. Fold the stroller before a bus arrives, and keep the bag small enough to manage through a station or boat ramp.
  4. For EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, compare the Skyliner, boat, walking path, and bus based on your resort and the entrance you want.
  5. Keep Minnie Van for a paid convenience trip when the route or timing earns the extra cost.
