Universal Studios Japan is exploring a long-term lease of Osaka City-owned land in Sakurajima 2-chome for a potential park expansion.
The discussion covers a 31,320.14-square-meter site at 431 Sakurajima 2-chome in Konohana-ku, close to the existing park. Osaka City’s public record identifies the land as an industrial-use site currently leased to Nippon Steel, with the current use scheduled to end in June 2027.
Osaka City identifies a 2028 lease target
USJ’s proposal seeks a long-term lease of the property, with a target agreement around April 2028. Osaka City said it will continue the procedures for a negotiated lease after considering the proposal and the site’s return schedule.

The land-use proposal remains preliminary
USJ said the discussions are preliminary and that no other details have been finalized. The announcement does not establish a new attraction, land theme, construction schedule or opening date.
