Avengers: Endgame is back at No. 1 on the worldwide box-office list. Disney credits the Endgame: Encore re-release with lifting the film to an estimated $2.9255 billion, ahead of Avatar at $2.9237 billion.
The difference between Disney's two estimates is about $1.8 million. The company announced the record Saturday, Oct. 4, without breaking out a final standalone gross for the Encore run.
Endgame closed a $39 million gap
The record came one week after Endgame: Encore opened with an estimated $86 million worldwide. At that point, the movie's cumulative total was $2.885 billion, still $39 million behind Avatar.
Disney's new figure is roughly $40.5 million higher than that opening-weekend cumulative estimate. That increase measures the change between two studio estimates; Disney has not labeled the full difference as the Encore re-release's final gross.
Marvel's worldwide total tops $35 billion
Marvel Studios' 38 theatrical releases have earned more than $35 billion worldwide. Seven of the 10 highest-grossing films in history are Disney releases.
The next Avengers film, Avengers: Doomsday, is scheduled to reach theaters Dec. 18. The movie will bring together the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Talokan, Thunderbolts, Wakandans and X-Men.
