Epic Universe’s 1.4-MW Floating Solar Array Charges Electric Buses at Night

Epic Universe’s 1.4-megawatt floating solar array is now operating as part of a system that stores daytime energy and charges Universal’s electric buses at night.

D3Energy said the array was energized earlier in 2026. It sits on a pond near the park and is one of three on-site solar installations at Epic Universe, which together total 3.7 megawatts.

Qcells managed the overall solar program, while Orlando-based D3Energy handled the floating portion. The setup pairs the panels with battery storage, allowing electricity generated during daylight hours to be used by the bus fleet after dark.

This is D3Energy’s second floating solar project for Universal Orlando Resort. The company completed another system at Universal’s main Orlando campus in 2021.
