Universal Horror Unleashed makes its monster prosthetics and masks inside its own Las Vegas lab, with a team of up to 12 artists preparing scores of performers each night.

Brody Cantrill has supervised the special effects makeup and prosthetics team since January. He has been moving some characters from masks to prosthetics or illusion-style airbrush makeup when the closer look can strengthen a scare or show moment.

From the Lab to the Show Floor

Cantrill and his team designed and built the lab. The prosthetics and masks used at Universal Horror Unleashed are made there in-house.

Jack the Clown has been one of Cantrill’s recurring assignments. During his time as a lead artist, he estimates that he applied Jack’s makeup about 240 times and used more than 1,000 prosthetic pieces.
