Ocean Park Hong Kong plans to open a new marine mammal conservation centre in January 2027, followed by a new giant panda habitat in the third quarter of the year. The park announced both projects on October 13 as part of its 50th anniversary plans.
The marine centre will replace the former North Pole Encounter. Its centerpiece will be the first public display of a whale skeleton from the animal that washed ashore in Sai Kung in 2023.
The centre will also cover Ocean Park’s work on marine-animal strandings and research. Interactive installations will address climate change, pollution and the use of single-use plastics.

The panda habitat is being developed for Ying Ying, Le Le, An An, Ke Ke and twins Jia Jia and De De. Elevated viewing platforms will help animal-care and veterinary teams monitor the pandas’ behavior and health. Visitors will also be able to watch routine medical-care training.
