Paul Bettany suggested Ruaridh Mollica try his own Scottish accent for Thomas Shepherd after the actor initially used an English accent for his VisionQuest audition.
Bettany was involved in casting the role. He told Marvel that Mollica’s self-tape convinced the team they had found their Thomas.
Mollica said, “I got to do my own accent because of Paul!” Bettany recalled that Mollica’s English accent was already convincing, but he wanted to hear the scene in the actor’s natural voice. The team kept the Scottish accent.
Mollica plays the 18-year-old Tommy, who is fresh out of foster care and experiencing flashbacks he cannot explain. VisionQuest is streaming now on Disney+.
