Michael Wilbon is taking an indefinite leave from Pardon the Interruption and his NBA duties at ESPN and ABC after dealing with multiple health issues in recent months.

Wilbon announced the leave in a public statement Nov. 2. He said it is not retirement and that his goal is to return to work with longtime PTI co-host Tony Kornheiser. He did not give a timetable for his return.

Wilbon said he plans to focus on his well-being during the leave. He did not identify a specific condition.

ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro said the network supports Wilbon and his family during the leave and looks forward to welcoming him back when he is ready.

Wilbon has co-hosted PTI since 2001

Wilbon and Kornheiser have co-hosted Pardon the Interruption since the show debuted in October 2001. Wilbon also contributes to ESPN and ABC’s NBA coverage.
