John Lasseter’s next directing project, Cosmic Motors, is being described by people familiar with the film as “‘Cars’ in space,” according to new reporting from TheWrap.

The shorthand points directly back to Pixar’s Cars. Lasseter later joined Skydance Animation as its head.

Lasseter’s directing role was already public. TheWrap reported in September that he would direct the film with Louie del Carmen as co-director. Paramount intends to release it theatrically in 2027, making it Skydance Animation’s first theatrical release.
