Disney Cruise Line Dress Code: What to Pack for Dinner

Main dining is cruise casual. Pack one polished outfit only if you have an adults-only restaurant reservation, then check your sailing before adding formalwear or a themed costume.

The short answer: shorts, T-shirts and sundresses are allowed in most Disney Cruise Line dining rooms. Swimwear and tank tops are not. Adults-only restaurants ask for a more polished look, while dress-up and themed evenings depend on the sailing and remain optional.

What to wear to main dining

The usual dinner standard is “cruise casual.” Khakis, slacks or nice jeans with a collared or polo shirt fit easily. Dresses, skirts and dressy tops do too. You can also wear shorts, a T-shirt or a sundress.

That means you do not need a separate formal outfit for every night in the rotational dining rooms. A small set of casual pieces can cover dinner and daytime use. The clear exclusions for these dining rooms are swimwear and tank tops.

A simple main-dining outfit

Bring a clean casual top with shorts, trousers, jeans, a skirt or a sundress. Add a light layer for cool dining rooms. That covers the ordinary dinner standard without packing for a dress code Disney does not require.

Pack for a premium restaurant only if you booked one

For Palo dinner, a suit or cocktail dress is welcome but not required. Polished dress casual also meets the standard. Think trousers or jeans in good condition, a collared shirt, a dressy top or a simple dress rather than beach or athletic clothing.

The brunch exception is narrow. Dress shorts work at Palo and Palo Steakhouse brunch, and at Palo Trattoria brunch on Disney Adventure. They are not accepted at Remy or Enchanté. Do not assume one restaurant’s exception applies across the fleet.

Optional dress-up and themed evenings

Some itineraries include an optional dress-up, formal or semiformal evening. Pirate or other themed entertainment may also appear, sometimes as a deck party and sometimes as a show. The exact mix depends on the sailing.

You can participate without buying a new wardrobe. One packable dress, pantsuit, jacket or coordinated outfit can cover an optional dress-up evening and a premium dinner. For a themed event, a small accessory is easier to pack than a full costume.

Check the schedule for your sailing before committing suitcase space. If a themed or dress-up evening is not listed, do not assume it will be added later.

A small dinner packing list

  • Two or three casual dinner tops that can be reworn.
  • Shorts, trousers, jeans, a skirt or a sundress for main dining.
  • One light layer for cool dining rooms.
  • One polished outfit if you booked an adults-only restaurant.
  • Appropriate shoes for that polished outfit.
  • One optional dress-up outfit only if you want to participate.
  • A compact themed accessory only when your sailing lists a themed event.

Keep dinner clothing with you on embarkation day if you want a specific outfit for the first evening. Checked luggage can arrive later in the day, so your carry-on should cover anything you would be unhappy to miss.

Questions to check before packing

Open your cruise plans and confirm the restaurants you actually reserved. Then check the current dining guidance and your sailing schedule. Your ship, itinerary and venue determine what to pack.
