Disney's current refurbishment notice sets Art of Animation room work to begin in mid-June 2027 and continue through October 2028. The resort is expected to remain open while crews move through one themed area at a time.
The new window adds detail to Disney's earlier summer-2027 announcement. The project covers regular guest rooms and family suites across the resort's four themed areas: The Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo, Cars, and The Lion King.
The current notice does not break the roughly 16-month window into individual phase dates or identify which themed area will go first. It does say guests may see or hear daytime maintenance in the active area.
How the Art of Animation Work Will Be Phased
The work will be a hard-goods refresh, covering furniture and fixtures. The phased approach keeps the rest of the resort available to book while each themed area is taken out of service in sequence.
The resort's four areas are The Little Mermaid standard-room wing and family-suite areas themed to Finding Nemo, Cars, and The Lion King. Disney's current resort page continues to list those room types while noting that refurbishment work is underway.
Disney has not released public concept art for this work. Earlier previews for the Little Mermaid rooms pointed to a new furniture layout, including pull-down Murphy beds, while keeping the underwater theme. The full design package and a detailed construction sequence have not been announced.
