Disney Legend Bob Gurr shared a new video tour inside Walt Disney's restored company plane, The Mouse, at Palm Springs Air Museum.
Gurr, who rode aboard the aircraft with Walt Disney during his Disney career, filmed the walk-through after appearing at D23's "A Toast to Walt's Plane" event in Palm Springs. The reel gives fans a rare look at the cabin because the interior is not normally open to public walk-throughs.
Inside Walt Disney's Restored Plane
The Walt Disney Archives revealed the restored interior May 2 for D23 members at Palm Springs Air Museum. The aircraft is a Grumman Gulfstream I that Walt Disney Productions acquired in 1963.
The restoration brings the cabin closer to its 1960s appearance, with lounge-style seating, a galley kitchen, two restrooms, a desk, and small Mickey Mouse details. Walt and Lillian Disney had creative input on the original interior.
The Mouse carried an estimated 83,000 passengers across nearly 20,000 flight hours during 28 years of company service. It moved to Palm Springs Air Museum on long-term loan after a D23 Expo display in 2022.
Why Bob Gurr's Tour Matters
Gurr is best known for Disney ride vehicles, including work tied to the Disneyland Monorail, Autopia, Matterhorn Bobsleds, and the Haunted Mansion Doom Buggy. His plane video has a personal edge: he was returning to an aircraft he actually used with Walt.
Palm Springs also fits the story. Walt Disney had deep ties to the area, and the aircraft now sits near the desert community where he spent time away from the studio.
