Universal United Kingdom Resort is the official name for Universal's Bedfordshire theme park and resort, a planned 2031 destination at Kempston Hardwick.

The June 3 update pairs the name reveal with a new UK government funding package for transportation and community infrastructure around the site. Universal plans a theme park with several themed lands, a 500-room hotel, and retail, dining, and entertainment areas.

Universal UK Funding and Jobs

Comcast NBCUniversal is committing more than £5 billion during the expected five-year construction period, plus another £1 billion in capital investment during the first 10 years of operation.

The UK government plans £1.3 billion for regional and local infrastructure tied to the project. That includes grants for community infrastructure and expected Department for Transport work on the A421 and Wixams station.

Universal and the government expect nearly 20,000 construction jobs and 8,000 jobs once the resort opens. The project is forecast to generate nearly £50 billion of economic benefit for the UK by 2055.

Bedfordshire Theme Park Plans

The resort is planned for the former brickworks and adjoining land at Kempston Hardwick, near Bedford. Planning permission came through a Special Development Order that took effect Jan. 12, 2026.

The first phase calls for Universal's first branded theme park and resort destination in the UK and Europe. Ride names, themed lands, ticket structure, and a more specific opening date remain for later project updates.

For now, the concrete pieces are the name, the Bedfordshire site, the 500-room hotel, the infrastructure package, and the 2031 target.
