Cedar Point confirmed a small metal washer detached from Magnum XL-200's lift mechanism on Sunday, June 21, and the coaster reopened after an inspection.
The statement followed a Facebook video from guest Marisol Santiago, who said a piece of metal missed her head by inches at the Sandusky, Ohio amusement park.
Cedar Point closed Magnum XL-200 as a precaution, completed a ride inspection, and reopened the coaster after the check, according to the park statement published by People. The report did not identify any guest injury from the June 21 incident.
Magnum XL-200 Incident at Cedar Point
Magnum XL-200 opened at Cedar Point in 1989. Cedar Point bills the Arrow Dynamics coaster as the world's first coaster to go 200 feet high.
The washer report drew quick attention because Cedar Point had a serious falling-object incident on Top Thrill Dragster in 2021. That coaster later closed permanently and returned in 2024 as Top Thrill 2.
Cedar Point's latest statement identified the Magnum XL-200 piece as part of the lift mechanism. The park's public response did not announce an extended closure.
