Massanutten Opens Mountain Mayhem Alpine Coaster in Virginia

The Shenandoah Valley resort added a 3,380-foot alpine coaster with rider-controlled speed, two spirals, and single or double rider tickets.

Mountain Mayhem is now open at Massanutten Resort, giving the Shenandoah Valley property a 3,380-foot alpine coaster at its Family Adventure Park.

Massanutten is billing Mountain Mayhem as Virginia's first alpine coaster. The ride is open to resort guests and local visitors.

Mountain Mayhem Ride Details

The coaster covers 2,156 feet of downhill track, includes two 360-degree spirals, and lasts about six minutes. Riders control the sled speed, which can reach 25 mph.

The track sits inside the Family Adventure Park, adding a warm-weather signature ride alongside Mega Zip, summer tubing, climbing, Ridge Rappel, and gem mining.

Tickets and Rider Rules

Single-rider tickets cost $18 for guests 13 and older. A double-rider adult-and-child ticket costs $24.

Combos cost $54 or $58 and bundle one coaster ride with other Family Adventure Park activities, including zip line, tubing, climbing attempts, Quick Flight jumps, or the kids' adventure course depending on the package.

Children younger than 4 cannot ride. Guests under 12 ride with someone at least 13, guests under 5 feet tall ride with an adult, and each toboggan has a 350-pound combined weight limit.

Where It Fits at Massanutten

Massanutten Resort is in Rockingham County, about two hours northwest of Richmond. Mountain Mayhem gives the Family Adventure Park a coaster that guests can book as a standalone ride or as part of an adventure-park combo.
