Knoebels Amusement Resort announced the death of Richard "Dick" Knoebel, its president emeritus and longtime leader. He was 87.
Knoebel served as park president from 1988 through 2025. During that span, the family-owned Pennsylvania park grew while keeping its free admission, free parking and picnic-grove character.
His projects included Phoenix, Twister, Flying Turns, Haunted Mansion and Black Diamond. Phoenix arrived as a relocated wooden coaster, while Flying Turns revived a nearly vanished wooden bobsled design after a seven-year build.
Knoebel entered the IAAPA Hall of Fame in 2014. He also held leadership roles with Pennsylvania's amusement-park association and helped shape the state's ride-inspection law.
"Dick's legacy lives on in every laugh, every ride, and every tradition that makes Knoebels feel like home," the Knoebel family said. Memorial service information will be announced later.
