Marvel Comics plans to move its publishing and franchise operations from New York City to Burbank, California, by July 2027, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

More than 100 New York employees are being asked to relocate during the next 12 months. Marvel shared the plan at a Midtown staff meeting Thursday and will begin orientation sessions for employees and their families next week.

Stephen Wacker will return to Marvel as editor-in-chief. C.B. Cebulski, who has led Marvel Comics since 2017, will move to Japan and oversee graphic fiction and manga created in the Asia-Pacific region.

Marvel's current New York lease expires next year. The company has operated in the city for nearly 90 years, beginning with predecessors Timely Comics and Atlas Comics on 42nd Street.

The Burbank move will place the comics team beside Marvel Studios and Disney's other creative groups. Wacker will officially join the company during the week of July 27, then spend the first week of August with the New York staff.
