Marvel Legends Symbiote Spider-Man Figure Opens Preorders

Hasbro has opened preorders for its Marvel Legends Maximum Series Symbiote Spider-Man figure. The six-inch figure costs $49.99 and is expected to ship around November 1.

The set includes 17 accessories. Alternate masked and unmasked heads join several pairs of hands, web lines and effects, a backpack, a manhole cover, a Sonic Blaster and a display container holding a piece of the symbiote. Preorders remain available, with a five-per-customer limit.

Why the black suit matters

The figure takes its look from Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #8. During the Battleworld story, Peter Parker finds what he thinks is a machine-made replacement for his damaged costume. The black material is later revealed to be a living alien symbiote, setting up the story that eventually produces Venom.

Readers actually saw the black costume first in The Amazing Spider-Man #252, published months before Secret Wars #8 explained how Peter acquired it. The figure represents that comics history rather than a specific movie or television version.
