Disney+ has ordered a pilot for a Spaceship Earth television series inspired by the EPCOT attraction, according to original reporting by Variety.
Jason Fuchs is attached as showrunner and executive producer through Five Ten Productions. Michael Waldron will executive produce through Anomaly Pictures.
Lee Toland Krieger will direct and executive produce the pilot. Adam Fishbach and Anomaly Pictures' Adam Fasullo are also executive producers. 20th Television will produce the project.
A pilot before a full series
A pilot order funds an initial episode that Disney+ can evaluate before deciding whether to commission a full season. The project has not received a series order.
The EPCOT attraction behind the title
Spaceship Earth opened with EPCOT in 1982. The attraction follows the history of human communication through scenes spanning early cave paintings, printing, radio, television and digital networks.
The ride sits inside the geodesic sphere at EPCOT's entrance, making the attraction and its building the park's most recognizable visual.
