Disney senior adviser Bob Iger and Thrive Capital founder Josh Kushner have reached an agreement to buy the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Axios and The Associated Press.

The two reports place slightly different values on the deal. Axios reports a $12 billion purchase price, while the AP values it at $12.5 billion. The agreement still needs approval from the NBA's Board of Governors.

Iger's Disney role continues through 2026

Iger stepped down as Disney CEO in March. Disney appointed him as a senior adviser and kept him on the company's board through December 31, 2026, according to its succession announcement.

Axios reports that Kushner would be the Lakers' controlling owner. Iger would hold a minority interest and take an active role in the team. Jeanie Buss is expected to remain a minority owner and team governor.

The transaction would move one of the NBA's best-known franchises from the Buss family, which has controlled the Lakers since 1979. A closing date has not been announced.
