Disney has greenlit an original Kingdom Hearts anime series for Disney+ and Disney Channel. The project will tell a new story developed with game creator Tetsuya Nomura and the creative team at Square Enix.
The Series Will Tell a New Kingdom Hearts Story
The working-title series will expand the universe established by the role-playing games. Disney has not announced its premiere date, episode count, cast or animation studio.
Kingdom Hearts began with Sora traveling between Disney worlds alongside Donald Duck and Goofy. The games combine Disney characters and locations with original heroes, villains and the Keyblade mythology. The new series is an original entry, so viewers should not assume it will retell a particular game.
Kingdom Hearts IV Is Still Coming in Late 2027
The television announcement is separate from Kingdom Hearts IV. Square Enix also revealed that the next game will include a world inspired by Pixar's Coco and is planned for late 2027.
