Ryan Gosling Brings Star Wars: Starfighter to D23 Ahead of May 2027 Release

Gosling and director Shawn Levy joined the D23 stage for Lucasfilm's next standalone movie.

Ryan Gosling and director Shawn Levy brought Star Wars: Starfighter to the D23 stage Friday night. The standalone Lucasfilm movie opens in theaters May 28, 2027.

Starfighter Tells a Standalone Story After The Rise of Skywalker

Levy's film takes place about five years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Gosling plays a new character in an original part of the timeline, separate from the Skywalker Saga.

Production began in the United Kingdom in August 2025. The cast also includes Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings and Amy Adams.

Shawn Levy Directs the May 28, 2027 Release

Jonathan Tropper wrote the screenplay. Levy and Kathleen Kennedy produce, with Gosling, Dan Levine, Mary McLaglen and Josh McLaglen serving as executive producers.
