A live-action The Kane Chronicles series is reportedly in development at Disney+, with author Rick Riordan and writer-producer Angela Robinson attached to write and executive produce.
The project follows a planned film adaptation that Netflix did not move forward with. The new series would be produced with 20th Television for Disney+.
What Is Known About the Disney+ Project
The reported series follows estranged siblings Carter and Sadie Kane as they master inherited Egyptian magic, form unlikely alliances and try to rescue their father while rival gods threaten the modern world.
Robinson and Riordan are attached to write and executive produce. Rebecca Riordan, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Jeremy Bell are also listed as executive producers, with the latter two producing for The Gotham Group. The article does not include a release date, cast list or production start date.
The Trilogy Behind the Adaptation
Riordan's fantasy trilogy consists of The Red Pyramid, The Throne of Fire and The Serpent's Shadow. Carter and Sadie are descendants of the pharaohs Narmer and Ramses the Great, and their story brings Egyptian gods and magic into the present day.
That setup gives the series a different corner of Riordan's mythological universe from Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The Disney+ project remains in development, with no premiere window identified in the current report.
