A large tower crane now rises above the Piston Peak construction site at Magic Kingdom. Visible on September 11, it can be seen from the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad queue, near Crystal Palace and from Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
The crane adds a new feature to the skyline as work continues on the Cars-themed expansion of Frontierland, replacing the former Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island.
What’s coming to Piston Peak
Disney’s plans call for two attractions: Cars Ridge Run Rally and Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along. The racing ride will climb a snowy peak and pass through a geyser field, while Miss Fritter will host a demolition derby with an animatronic version of the school bus from Cars 3.
The setting takes its inspiration from the Rocky Mountains and America’s national parks, with a visitor lodge, Ranger headquarters and trails. Disney shared those details and the concept art shown here before this week’s crane installation.
Disney has not announced an opening date for Piston Peak.
