UPDATE: Universal Confirms King Kong Animatronic Was Damaged During Maintenance

The King Kong animatronic was damaged during routine maintenance and is undergoing repairs. Universal has not identified a reopening timeframe.

The King Kong animatronic inside Skull Island: Reign of Kong was damaged during routine maintenance and is undergoing repairs.

The resort provided the explanation to BlogMickey on September 14. “During routine maintenance, the King Kong animatronic sustained damage and is undergoing repairs,” a Universal spokesperson said. The statement did not include a reopening timeframe.

Online claims that the animatronic caught fire have circulated, but Universal has not identified a fire as the cause. That remains unconfirmed.

Kong remained closed Sunday afternoon, with no wait or return time shown.
