The writers of MARVEL Tōkon: First Strike #1 have explained how the comic leads into MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls. In a September 16 interview with D23, Steve Orlando, Josh Trujillo and Tom Waltz described the three stories they wrote for the comic special.
Waltz’s Fighting Avengers story explains why Thor, Iron Man, Captain America and Hulk are divided when the game begins. He told D23 that the game team gave his writers early cutscenes and a basic outline for the prequel, then room to expand it.

Trujillo’s story, “The Battles Ahead,” follows Storm and the Unbreakable X-Men. He called it a prequel with consequences for the game’s launch story. Orlando wrote about the Champion’s origin and the Promoter, with the Silver Surfer playing a role in that story.

MARVEL Tōkon: First Strike #1 is available through Marvel Unlimited and comic shops. MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls launched August 6 for PlayStation 5 and PC.
