MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls launched Thursday on PlayStation 5 with 20 playable Marvel characters and four-fighter teams.
The standard edition costs $59.99 on the PlayStation Store. A $84.99 Digital Deluxe Edition adds the Year 1 character and stage pass, plus Howard the Duck and Cosmo lobby items. The $99.99 Ultimate Edition adds five costumes and an animated color option.
Four Marvel fighters share one team
Arc System Works built each match around 4v4 tag-team combat. Players can switch characters during combos and move between stages based on Marvel locations. Local matches support one or two players, while the online lobby can hold up to 64 players.
The launch roster mixes Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four members and villains. Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man, Storm, Doctor Doom and Ghost Rider appear in the official launch artwork. The anime-inspired designs are original to the game rather than direct copies of one comic series or screen adaptation.
Phoenix Cyclops joins after launch
Phoenix Cyclops is the first announced Year 1 DLC fighter. That version of Scott Summers draws on the 2012 Avengers vs. X-Men crossover, where Cyclops and four other mutants received portions of the Phoenix Force.
Arc System Works has not said that the game will follow the crossover's plot. The character instead brings Cyclops' optic blasts together with the Phoenix-powered look and abilities from the comics.
