Jon Watts has been tapped to direct the first film in Simon Kinberg’s new Star Wars trilogy, according to TheWrap. The Hollywood Reporter also describes Watts as attached to the first installment.
Lucasfilm has not announced Watts as director. The studio declined to comment to TheWrap. The project remains in development and has not been greenlit by Disney, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
That is firmer than the earlier consideration-stage report. Knight Edge Media first reported that Lucasfilm was circling Watts for Episode X, while noting that the choice could still change.
Watts co-created Star Wars: Skeleton Crew and directed two episodes of the Disney+ series. His film credits include the Tom Holland Spider-Man trilogy.
The project does not have a release date. Lucasfilm has not said when production could begin.
