The original Star Wars and Star Wars: Starfighter will each receive IMAX 70mm film presentations in 2027. The 70mm screenings will be limited to select IMAX film locations.
The restored 1977 film returns February 19, 2027, as part of the franchise's yearlong 50th anniversary celebration. It will play in IMAX for the first time, with presentations offered digitally or on film depending on the theater.
Starfighter follows on May 28
Star Wars: Starfighter opens May 28, 2027, during the original film's 50th anniversary weekend. The new movie was filmed for IMAX with IMAX-certified film cameras and will be converted to IMAX 70mm prints for select locations.
Director Shawn Levy's standalone adventure stars Ryan Gosling as Kade Auberon. Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, Flynn Gray and Amy Adams are also in the cast.
The theater list is still coming
Participating 70mm theaters have not been identified. Ticket-sale dates and showtimes also remain unannounced, so an IMAX listing alone will not guarantee a film presentation.
