Taika Waititi says the Star Wars movie he was developing is on ice, and he and screenwriter Tony McNamara are now working on a different project.

Waititi gave the update during an interview with Dais Johnston for Inverse. He said they were going to “put it on ice,” then described the project as firmly paused.

He did leave room for a return. Waititi pointed out that ice ages end and answered “Who knows?” when asked about the movie’s future. He did not say that Lucasfilm had permanently canceled it.

Lucasfilm announced the untitled movie in May 2020, with Waititi set to direct and co-write it. No release date was announced.
