Apu returned to a speaking role on The Simpsons in Sunday’s “The Revengening,” with Sunil Malhotra taking over as the character’s new voice.
Malhotra replaces Hank Azaria, who stopped voicing Apu in 2020. The casting was revealed after the episode aired October 18 on FOX.
In an interview with Variety, Malhotra said he researched the role and spoke with executive producers Matt Selman and Cesar Mazariegos about how the show planned to handle the character before accepting it.
Selman told Variety that the series plans to bring Apu and his family back for more appearances. Janina Gavankar now voices Apu’s wife, Manjula.
The official title is “Treehouse of Horror Presents: The Revengening,” episode 3713. In a clip from the episode, Apu returns to Springfield and confronts the townspeople.
