A report presented to Biggleswade Town Council recommends more visitor accommodation, a museum and tourist information point, and bus connections as the town prepares for Universal United Kingdom Resort.
The report for the council's October 20 meeting, written by Ian Campbell, estimates that Biggleswade has about 45 rooms in the town centre. That figure excludes Airbnb and other short-term rentals because their capacity was not known.
Recommendations, Not Approved Projects
The report recommends looking for ways to increase hospitality capacity and improve bus connections between Biggleswade, the planned resort and nearby transport hubs. It also suggests a combined museum and tourist information point, advertising the town at Universal, and inviting a Universal representative to meet with the council.
Council members were asked to note the report. It states that there is no town council budget allocation, so the ideas are proposals rather than approved or funded projects.
Universal's Bedfordshire Plans
Universal United Kingdom Resort is planned as the company's first branded theme park and resort destination in the UK and Europe. The project calls for several themed lands, a 500-room hotel, and retail, dining and entertainment.
The Biggleswade report does not establish a timetable for its recommendations or a new commitment from Universal.
