Carly Pearce recalled taking a job at Dollywood when she was 16 during a backstage interview after Wednesday’s Dolly Parton tribute in Nashville.

The job gave Pearce a line she has repeated for years: she joked that she really did work “9 to 5 for Dolly.”

Pearce and Kristin Chenoweth performed “9 to 5” together during CMA Presents I Will Always Love You: A Celebration of Dolly Parton. Speaking backstage with Lara Spencer, Pearce described the night as a full-circle moment after growing up with Parton as one of her musical role models.
