Disney Conservation Fund announced a $1 million investment in Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots on October 26.

The youth program helps young people organize projects for people, animals and the environment. Disney said the new commitment brings its total investment in Roots & Shoots to more than $7.5 million.

The announcement came as 10 youth conservation leaders from across the United States gathered at Walt Disney World for a multi-day summit. They visited Disney’s Animal Kingdom and EPCOT, met with animal care, veterinary, science, conservation and storytelling staff, and explored conservation careers.

Each participant was paired with a Disney mentor in their area of interest. Those mentors will serve as career and education coaches over the next year.
