Tell the person taking your order about every food allergy, then ask for a chef or manager when you need details about ingredients or preparation. Universal Orlando restaurants can discuss possible accommodations, but the resort does not have separate kitchens for allergen-free food. Cross-contact can happen.
Read a current menu before the visit, keep another meal nearby in mind and check again at the restaurant. Recipes, suppliers and available substitutions can change. A menu symbol is a useful starting point, not a guarantee that a dish is suitable for a particular guest.
Before the trip: pick a first choice and a backup
Start with the restaurants near the part of the park where you expect to eat. Review the current menu, note the dishes you want to ask about and choose a backup location. This keeps the plan useful if a recipe or substitution does not work for your needs that day.
Write down each diner’s restrictions separately. A clear note such as “Maya: milk and sesame allergy” is easier to discuss than a general statement that someone in the party has allergies. Include every relevant restriction in the same conversation.
You can email food.allergy@universalorlando.com with questions before the trip. Keep the reply with your dining plans, but repeat the allergy at the restaurant. Advance correspondence does not replace the kitchen conversation.

At the restaurant, speak with a person before ordering
At quick-service locations, tell the Team Member at the register about the allergy before the order is entered. At a table-service restaurant, tell the server before choosing a meal. Ask to speak with a chef or manager if you need to discuss ingredients, substitutions or preparation.
Say who in the party has the allergy and name the ingredient. If one person has several restrictions, explain them together so the answer covers the whole meal. Use the same process even when a dish looks familiar or you ordered it on a previous visit.
For a dietary restriction, ordering in person gives you a chance to ask the questions that an app screen cannot answer. If you begin with mobile ordering, speak with a Team Member before accepting the food and confirm that the order reflects the restrictions you discussed.
| Question to settle | What to ask |
|---|---|
| The menu marks a dish for one restriction. | Does the current recipe address every allergy in this order? |
| A substitution is offered. | Which ingredient changes, and how will the modified dish be prepared? |
| The answer is unclear. | May I speak with a chef or manager before ordering? |
| The meal arrives. | Is this the order prepared for the named diner and the restrictions we discussed? |
| The restaurant cannot meet the request. | Use the backup plan instead of trying to infer that an ingredient is absent. |
Shared kitchens change the decision
There are no separate food-preparation facilities for allergen-free meals. An allergen can reach an ingredient before it arrives at the restaurant or during preparation. Staff may take precautions, but the resort cannot completely guarantee that contact will not occur.
Ask about the steps that matter for your allergy: the ingredients in the current recipe, shared fryers or grills, utensils, prep surfaces and any packaged component. The useful question is not simply whether a dish is described as gluten-sensitive, dairy-sensitive or vegan. Ask how the exact meal will be prepared.
If the answer does not meet your needs, stop and choose another meal. Follow the guest’s established allergy plan and clinician’s guidance. This page covers restaurant logistics, not medical advice or emergency treatment.
You may bring food for medical or special dietary needs
Universal Orlando’s park rules allow food required for medical purposes and special dietary needs. Tell the security Team Member during bag screening that the food is for an allergy or dietary need.
Use a soft-sided cooler smaller than 8.5 inches wide, 6 inches high and 6 inches deep. Glass is not allowed, and outside food cannot require heating or refrigeration. Pack something that can be eaten under those limits rather than counting on a restaurant to store or prepare it.
See our Universal Orlando outside-food guide for the full packing rules. If medication storage or an urgent health need is part of the plan, review our Universal Orlando First Aid and health-services guide before the trip.

Kosher and halal meals need advance arrangements
Universal Orlando offers made-to-order kosher and halal meals at participating locations. These meals require at least four to five days’ notice and a confirmed dining reservation. Restaurant participation and menu choices can change.
Make the restaurant reservation first. Then email food.allergy@universalorlando.com with the reservation details and the number of people who need each meal. Wait for confirmation before treating the arrangement as complete.
These advance meals are separate from an allergy accommodation. If a guest also has a food allergy, include it in the email and discuss it again at the restaurant, including the shared-kitchen limits.
Your park-day checklist
- Keep each diner’s allergies and any advance correspondence accessible.
- Review a current menu and choose a practical backup nearby.
- Tell the Team Member before ordering and name every restriction.
- Ask for a chef or manager when ingredient or preparation details are needed.
- Ask about shared equipment and cross-contact for the exact meal.
- Confirm the intended diner and restrictions when the food arrives.
- Bring a permitted backup meal if the restaurant choices may not work.
