A woman was arrested after police say a puppy was left inside a vehicle at Cedar Point for more than three hours on a warm May day.

WOIO, carried by WMTV and Gray News, reported that Sandusky police records said officers were called to a Cedar Point parking lot for a dog locked inside a Honda SUV. The dog was described as a 4-to-6-month-old German shepherd puppy.

According to the report, the National Weather Service listed the outside temperature at 83 degrees with an 85-degree heat index. Police said the passenger-side windows were only open about 1 to 1.5 inches, no water was visible inside, and the puppy was curled on the rear passenger-side floorboard and panting excessively.

Cedar Point maintenance helped officers get into the vehicle, and Cedar Point security took the dog to the park's Pet Check kennel, according to the local reports. WHIO reported that officers reviewed cameras and determined the dog had been left in the car from about 11:14 a.m. until officers removed it around 2:40 p.m.

Police identified the suspected driver as 22-year-old Briana Jones, according to WOIO. The report said she was removed from the park, taken to jail, and served with a misdemeanor animal-cruelty charge. WOIO reported that she was being held at the Erie County Jail on a $2,500 bond.

Cedar Point's posted pet policy says pets are not allowed inside the park, with the exception of service animals. The resort lists Pet Check as an on-property kennel option for guests who bring animals to the property.
